ISTE's NETS for Students (NETS•S) are the standards for evaluating the skills and knowledge students need to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly global and digital world. Below you will find one of ISTE's NETS for Students standards (Creativity and Innovation). Below that information we also have provided specific examples of how these objectives might be addressed in a classroom, by grade levels. After reading this information please brainstorm and collaborate as a group to complete the the table on the bottom of the page.
Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products or processes. b. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression. c. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues. d. Identify trends and forecast possibilities.
Examples of classroom learning activities students might engage in to address the above NETS standards/objectives (ISTE).
1.Use simulations and graphical organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth, such as the life cycles of plants and animals. Grades PreK-2.
2. Produce a media-rich digital story about a significant local event based on first-person interviews. Grades 3-5
3.Create original animations or videos documenting school, community, or local events.Grades 6-8
4.Identify a complex global issue, develop a systematic plan of investigation, and present innovative sustainable solutions. Grades 9-12
Please take some time to review and discuss this standard and then return as a group to complete the chart. You group facilitator will be the time keeper!
An essential question to consider when beginning this process would be: Will Ludlow Public School students be prepared with the necessary 21st Century skills to compete and acquire jobs in this ever changing global economy? If not, what steps must the district take to make this come to fruition? If we are, what (if anything) can the district do to better assist our students?
